Give360: Holiday Food Drive for Brother Benno Foundation

This past holiday season, Frontwave Credit Union hosted a Holiday Canned Food Drive to support families in need within our community. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our members and employees, over 1,000 pounds of non-perishable food items were delivered to the Brother Benno Foundation.

Additionally, the Frontwave Foundation matched every dollar donated, doubling the impact. Every contribution, whether food or financial gifts, helped bring warmth and joy to families facing challenges during the winter season.

Here’s what makes Brother Benno’s so special:
  • Hot meals served daily in their cafeteria and lunch hall.
  • A pantry offering groceries, clothing, blankets, and hygiene products.
  • Showers and laundry facilities open to anyone.
  • Recovery homes that give people a fresh start.
  • Access to medications and other essentials.
  • A warm and welcoming chapel for spiritual and emotional support.

We were amazed to learn about their upcoming renovations, including a walk-in grocery store that will allow people to shop for free with dignity.

This wouldn’t have been possible without YOU—our Frontwave Members & Employees—who made the donations that allow us to support our community and gives back. And we’re proud of that!

Non-Perishable Food Ideas

Canned proteins are always in high demand. Items like canned tuna, chicken, or salmon provide essential nutrients and are versatile for preparing meals. Consider donating canned beans or lentils as well—they’re excellent plant-based protein options and can be used in a variety of dishes. Canned soups and stews are also great because they’re hearty, shelf-stable, and often include a mix of proteins, vegetables, and grains.

Another helpful category is canned fruits and vegetables. Choose options packed in water or natural juices rather than syrup or heavy salt to make them a healthier choice. Look for items like green beans, corn, peas, peaches, and pineapple. These donations help ensure that families have access to essential vitamins and minerals.

Staples like rice, pasta, and shelf-stable grains are excellent additions to any food drive. Pair these with jars of pasta sauce, boxes of macaroni and cheese, or even canned chili for ready-made meal solutions. Don’t forget about breakfast items like oatmeal packets or cereals—especially those with low sugar and high fiber content.

Finally, consider adding some extras that are often overlooked. Spices, cooking oil, and condiments like ketchup or mustard can make meals more enjoyable and complete.
